Central Charlton Singers

Performing at the CCRA Christmas Social, December 2013

Dates for Autumn 2017:
to be posted later in August

Our Carol Singing in December raised £580 which will be divided between Greenwich Food Bank and Charlton Toy Library

The singing group was formed in 2008 and is open to anyone interested in singing for enjoyment.  There is no audition process, and no need to read music.  Membership is mainly drawn from central Charlton, and at the moment we are unable to accommodate any new members from outside the area.  We meet fortnightly, alternating between Mondays and Thursdays.  It is not necessary for everyone to attend every session as the focus is on singing for enjoyment rather than rehearsing for performance.  The repertoire is chosen by members of the group and has included popular songs, folk songs, madrigals, rounds and songs from Africa, Europe and South America.  We have given a few public performances, mainly at CCRA socials but also at other local events.  In November 2014 we sang at Charlton House as part of the First World War centenary commemorations.

One of our regular activities is to go carol singing around the local neighbourhood, raising money for local charities.  In 2012, we raised £360 for Blind Independence Greenwich and in 2013, despite terrible weather which curtailed our efforts, we raised £271 for Greenwich Young Carers.  In 2014 we raised £470 which was divided between the Greenwich Food Bank and the St Richard's Hall repair fund.  In 2015 year we raised £560, to be divided between Greenwich Food Bank and Dementia Carers Greenwich and last year, £580 for the Food Bank and Charlton Toy Library..
